Do you know where your main water shut off valves are? They will probably be outside your home, in the ground, under a small, metal cover. There is a special tool you can get to turn the valve off and on. This is the valve that needs to be turned off if you wake up and step out of bed and your carpet is sopping wet!
Let’s say you have a nighttime leak and wake up to find water all over the place-it flowed under your T.V. and saturated the carpets under your computer and floor lamp. DON’T GO THERE! Water and electric gadgets are a bad combination. So…do you know where your fuse box is? This is a good time to find out, before you have a water damage issue arise.
Did you know that water damage can occur without your knowledge? Not all water damage comes from floods. While not nearly as dramatic, the results can be disastrous. Use your senses, especially your nose. Signs of water damage can include:
- peeling paint
- peeling wall paper
- clots of mold
- a nasty odor.
Walk around your home wearing a sock on one foot and nothing on the other foot. Does the tile or wood floor feel warmer or cooler in a certain area? If yes, there could be a water leak in the slab.
