Basement Flood Restoration

Before entering the affected area:

  • Turn off the power.
  • Attempt to locate the source of water and shut it off, if possible.
  • Use caution when walking on the wet floors.

Once the area has been secured:

  • Extract as much water as you can by mopping and blotting.
  • Wipe furnishing dry.
  • Block furnishings with pieces of wood on styrofoam. Be careful not to place anything with dye or color against damp surfaces as they may bleed.
  • Take the window treatments off the carpet, thread them through a non-metal coat hanger, and hang the hanger on the drapery rod to keep them off the floor.
  • Take out damp area rugs from any other floor coverings.
  • Move photos, artwork and paintings to a dry, safe area.
  • Open the drawers of furniture, closet doors, and luggage to facilitate better drying.
  • Take damp books off the shelves and lay them out to dry.

Important DO NOT’S with Water Damage:

  • Avoid using a regular household vacuum to extract water.
  • Do not operate electrical appliances on wet floors..
  • Avoid entering rooms with standing water while the electricity is still on.
